In addition to filming the song live The Chevy Musicshowcase also had our good buddies Maps for Travelers sit down with Making Movies for an interview. Hear them talking about where their sound comes from and writing their lyrics in Spainish.
Video of the Day part 1: Making Movies - Sirena
So our new friends The Chevy Music Showcase started up a local music showcase series for Kansas City bands. They were sweet enough to invite Making Movies to record their song Sirena off their Aguardiente EP. This has been one of our favorite songs we have released this year and does a good job of showing why there is a lot of cool things going on with this band.
Check out this sweet video for some our good friends over at Oddly Correct! They make some of our favorite coffee. I pretty much drink it daily. It is soundtracked by several clips of songs from Capybara’s latest album Dave Drusky. I think I might go make a cup right now.
Song of the Day: La Guerre - 23
Well here it is the first single from the new La Guerre ep Savannah>Jacksonville. As you know might already know La Guerre is the solo project of Katlyn Conroy(Cowboy Indian Bear and Hospital Ships). It will be a three song ep featuring 23 that was also featured on our Secret Handshakes 12” Compilation. Savannah>Jacksonville will be available July 10th via Itunes and other digital stores. It will feature 3 songs in all.
2. The Benefits (Part II)
3. Lights Go Out (Featuring CJ from Cowboy Indian Bear)
Savannah>Jacksonville is just a taste of what’s to come from La Guerre featuring some of Katlyn’s home demos and a studio recording that will likely be part of a more proper studio release.

Song of the Day: Making Movies - Hangover Blues
If you are not familiar with the band Making Movies you will be in the near future. The new ep Aguardiente showcases the band’s use Afro-Latino rhythms but also finds the bi-lingual band experimenting with vocal loops and expansive textures intermixed alongside Montunos, Bata grooves, Puerto Rican Cuatro riffs and Bembe bell patterns. This latest single Hangover Blues does a good job of crossing the gap between their strengths in latin pop and indie rock. They have spent the last year opening for acts like Fun, Neon Indian, Ozomatli, Los Lobos and Mariachi El Bronx.

La Guerre - 17 (Youth Lagoon Cover)
Here is La Guerre doing a fantastic minimal cover of one of our favorites from last year 17. Her minimal send up highlights the fragile nature of the original but brings a new feminine side to it.
We are really excited for La Guerre’s 3 song ep Savannah>Jacksonville that we are putting out next month.
