Here is Ad Astra Arkestra bringing the party to Middle of the Map Fest.  They brought it all out for the show:  tons of percussion, back up singers, masks and plenty of dynamic energy. AAA didn’t disappoint and brought their energy to a big stage.

Middle of the Map Fest was a such a blast. We had a great time and all of the bands did a fantastic job. We are excited to share this highlight reel cut from footage from The Musicians Network. They shot a ton of the festival and will be releasing more videos in coming weeks. 

Ad Astra Arkestra - Ophelia’s Blues

Late in the summer before the release of their fabulous 4 song 12” we recorded a living room session with our band Ad Astra Arkestra. It was an intimate session and night of fun with a few of them in their living room. They played a few different songs including the previous posted cover of Don’t Let Me Down. This song however is the final song on their 12” and its humdinger. It shows off how things can get a little rowdy and the unknown finds a way of happening.

These guys are really a music-junky’s dream because they combine every oddity you could possibly imagine into one expansive work of art. If you like Django Reinhardt, you might like these guys; if you’re into Sun Ra or Sonic Youth you might dig these guys; hell, if you’ve listened to any sort of world and or post-punk music in the last twenty years you’ll probably find something to like here. In a just universe, Ad Astra Arkestra would provide the soundtrack for the post-colonial, post-cultural, post-modern experience; genres may have failed, but ingenuity and the heterogeneous persist.

It’s way fun,” says Nichols, who plays keyboards for Arkestra and bass for the Grisly Hand. “There’s a lot more room to do what you want, to experiment. I mean, we opened for ourselves the other night.” (He’s referring to the band’s recent show at the Replay, where they found themselves without an opener and spent 25 minutes burning through an epic, improvisational jam.)

Ad Astra Arkestra - Reverse Fishing

Here is the first single from the upcoming Ad Astra Arkestra self titled 12”. The song shows off their self proclaimed take on drum-punk. Listen to the full song to hear the bad ass bass solo at the end. I knew from the first moments of hearing the demo’s last fall that we needed to release their material. Finally things are coming full circle.
